About
Who We Are
Welcome to Health on the Menu!
Health on the Menu empowers new and existing entrepreneurs to build businesses that increase access to healthy foods in low-resource communities. Our goal is to support sustainable and economically thriving business models that improve community health and wellbeing.
In Arkansas, low-resource communities face high rates of food insecurity, chronic diseases, and limited access to fresh, nutritious foods. Nearly 1 in 5 residents struggles with food insecurity — not always having enough food at all times. This lack of consistent access to healthy foods increases the risk of chronic illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Our Mission
Health on the Menu is committed to transformative change. Our mission is to:
1.Raise critical consciousness among small business entrepreneurs about the social and structural factors that influence health.
2.Foster critical thinking about the root causes of poor health in low resource communities.
3.Shift mindsets by promoting beliefs and attitudes that support socially responsible and economically viable business practices.
4.Build capacity for entrepreneurs to implement business strategies that are both community-responsive and economically successful.
We believe that by training and equipping entrepreneurs with these tools, we can create healthier communities — one business at a time.
Our Vision
Health on the Menu envisions a future where businesses across the entire food chain embrace evidence-based practices that eliminate chronic diseases in low-resource communities.
